Virginia Development Academy’s Audrey McKeen Signs with NWSL Club Racing Louisville

Virginia Development Academy (VDA) U19 standout Audrey McKeen has signed a professional contract with the NWSL’s Racing Louisville, becoming one of the youngest players in the league. The 17-year-old Vienna, Virginia native is set to officially join the club in 2026. The deal is through the 2028 season.

"We are extremely excited for the opportunity that lies ahead for Audrey; she has earned this with hard work and sacrifice,” said Matt Lacey, VDA Technical Director. “Her obsession to always strive to improve and push on to the next level will have a lasting impact on our program and future generations of female players to come.”

“Audrey’s commitment to excellence and desire to improve has helped her get to this milestone in her journey,” said Bobby Puppione, VDA Girls ECNL Director. “We are proud of her for earning this opportunity to move on to the professional game, and we know she will inspire future generations at VDA and all across the DMV.”

Over the past two years, McKeen has been a consistent presence with U.S. Youth National Teams, earning call-ups to camps and international trips with the U17, U18, and U19 teams. Her individual accolades include United Soccer Coaches Youth All-American, ECNL All-American, and Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year honors. At the club level, she helped her VDA ECNL Girls team reach the semifinals of the ECNL National Championships as the club earned a top 15 national ranking.

“VDA has been instrumental in helping me grow both as a player and a person, and I truly wouldn’t be at this point in my journey without this amazing club,” said McKeen. “The daily environment pushes me every day, with professional staff, dedicated teammates, and a culture that is not only first class on the soccer side but incredibly supportive on a personal level. I’m extremely grateful for everything this club has done for me, and I’m so excited to take the next step in my journey by signing my first pro contract at age 17.”

Racing Louisville made their first appearance in the NWSL Playoffs this past season. McKeen will join the club at the beginning of 2026 as they kick off their sixth year in the league.

Congratulations to VDA U19 and VCU commit Ricky Oliva on his selection to the El Salvador U17 World Cup squad. Ricky and the team will represent La Selecta at the 2025 FIFA Under-17 Men's World Cup to be held in Qatar from Nov. 3-27, 2025.

ECNL Girls Released 2022-2023 National Club Rankings

For the first time in the club's brief history, VDA Girls is ranked in the top 25 of ECNL's national rankings. VDA is the only Virginia club included in the rankings and one of two in the Mid-Atlantic division. VDA has blazed to this achievement in only six years.

VDA Partner Club players impress as part of DP program

Over the weekend the VDA partner clubs (VSA, PWSI, HYS) 'Development Players' excelled in ECNL match day action. Since VDA’s inception in 2015, the Development Player program has been an integral part of the player development pathway providing players opportunities in training and games to develop and excel.

"The role of the DP player at VDA has become a vital part of the development process for our club. It is something that we are proud of and have had remarkable success with over the years and as we continue the project of developing VDA the more players have benefited from this program" Matt Lacey, Technical Director

The DP program is for players that the club feel have potential to be successful in the ECNL but need more time to develop for a variety of reasons (physical development, confidence, more playing time in games, etc). These players are provided with specific training days with VDA while playing full time with partner clubs in the ECNL-RL (VSA, PWSI, HYS). If the player is developing and performing well in the ECNL-RL environment they will be given more training opportunities and time in VDA games. Between the three partner clubs we have 20+ players per gender as Development Players.

"The most important part of being a DP is trusting the process as a player and as a parent. We make players DPs because we believe that it is in the best interest long term for them to be in the right environment where they can maximize training opportunities and game time (Games with ECNL RL team). If the player is committed and dedicated they will be given the opportunity to play in VDA games and earn a full-time spot" Matt Lacey, Technical Director

This past weekend the following players had big roles in their teams performances: Ethan Ognek (08), Yinka Bashorun (07), Oman Akbari (08), Thomas Fitzsimmons-Call (06), David Fitzsimmons-Call (06), Mikey Stegmaier (09), and Liam Richford (09). This included a hattrick for Liam in the 2009 game.

DC United & VDA Partner for Men's U23 Program | Summer 2022

WOODBRIDGE, VA – D.C. United’s U23 program will feature top collegiate, international, and domestic players. The objective is to provide a professional experience and create a professional pathway for players in the DMV area while continuing to support DC United by identifying potential players for Loudoun United and D.C. United.

The D.C. United U23 program will be operated and managed by Virginia Development Academy and train at James Long Park in Haymarket, Virginia.

Pat Ouckama (D.C. United Academy Director) states, “D.C. United is proud to partner with VDA to provide a competitive platform at the U23 age group. Having a platform in place to monitor college-aged talent further solidifies the pathway to the professional teams under the D.C. United umbrella.”
